Contactless level detector and display

The KQ10, which can also be used on non-metallic pipes, provides a continuous level signal over the range 0 to 100% via its IO-Link interface

Easily fitted to the outside of non-metallic vessels, the new KQ10 level detector and display units from ifm electronic feature a vertical column of LEDs that tracks the level of liquid or granules within the tank, providing a display that mimics the traditional sight glass, but with none of its disadvantages.

In addition to its visual display, the KQ10, which can also be used on non-metallic pipes, provides a continuous level signal over the range 0 to 100% via its IO-Link interface. It also has three user-adjustable switching points, allowing it to replace three conventional sensors.

Since the KQ10 is installed on the outside of the vessel, it never comes into contact with the medium it is monitoring, which makes it ideal for use in hygienic or aggressive chemical applications.

External installation also eliminates the need to drill holes in the vessel, as would be required to accommodate conventional sensors.

Individual KQ10 level detector and display units are 250 mm long but if the level being monitored changes by more than this, several units can be combined to produce a longer display with no dead bands.

The units automatically sense the level within the vessel using capacitive technology and are unaffected by minor build-up of deposits on the vessel wall. If the build-up approaches the level where sensing accuracy will start to be degraded, a warning signal is generated.

All parameterisation of KQ10 sensors is conveniently carried out via the IO-Link interface.

In addition to the switching points, which are typically set to indicate low, high and overflow levels, users can also adjust the switching hysteresis for each set point and choose between normally open or normally closed operation.

In addition, they can configure the sensor orientation and the detection zone.
