Encapsulated sixteenth-brick package for harsh environments

Flex Power Modules announces encapsulated sixteenth-brick DC-DC converters for industrial/railway and telecom applications

Flex Power Modules introduces the PKU-S series of DC-DC power modules for the industrial/railway and telecom sectors, to provide highly reliable, high performance and rugged DC-DC solutions.

The modules are housed in the industry-standard sixteenth-brick form factor (35.3 x 25 x 10.4mm/1.39 x 0.984 x 0.41in), with sealed and encapsulated packaging. This ensures their reliability when exposed to dust, moisture, severe vibration and other harsh environmental conditions.

There are two variants: the PKU3500S series has an input voltage range of 9 to 36V, and the PKU5500S operates from 18 to 75V.

The converters can deliver up to 15A and 50W of output power and achieve up to 91% efficiency. Input-to-output isolation is 2250VDC.

The series achieves high levels of reliability, with mean time between failures (MTBF) of up to 8 million hours. The new modules meet safety requirements according to the latest IEC/EN/UL62368-1 standard.

Olle Hellgren, Director of Product Management and Business Development at Flex Power Modules, said: “Further strengthening our product offering for harsh environments such as those found in the industrial/railway and telecoms sectors, the PKU-S family enables our customers to benefit from the high power density offered by the sixteenth-brick footprint, while also offering the environmental and physical protection of these encapsulated versions.”

The PKU3000S and PKU5000S families are available now for sampling and volume production requirements.
