Geared cam limit switch

Offering a gear ratio adjustment of 74:1, the Light Cam Compact delivers greatly increased positional accuracy compared to competitor solutions at a similar cost point

For manufacturers of standardised cranes and hoists, reducing the size and cost of designs is a priority. With fierce market competition, unlocking a value or packaging advantage can differentiate a crane or hoist system from the rest. Stromag has responded to these trends with the launch of its Light Cam Compact geared cam limit switch, a new model offering the same functionality as its proven range within a reduced footprint.

Stromag is a designer and manufacturer of power transmission components – providing a full range of limit switches for a variety of crane and hoist applications. By reducing the size of its Light Cam limit switch, Stromag has introduced a compact base model ready for OEMs looking to reduce the size and cost of their designs.

Marco Niehnus, Global Product Manager Controls at Stromag, says: “With the Light Cam Compact, we are offering our market-leading limit switch technology in a new downsized, cost-effective package. There has been no sacrifice in accuracy or reliability, ensuring that when it comes to limiting the movement of loads, the Light Cam Compact base model does not mean basic performance.”

Offering a gear ratio adjustment of 74:1, the Light Cam Compact delivers greatly increased positional accuracy compared to competitor solutions at a similar cost point. Furthermore, it unlocks improved reliability too. A form fit gear design, shared across Stromag’s limit switch range, ensures that once the cam disc is set, it will stay in position. Many other limit switches use a mechanism that is reliant on forces, which can mean that – during adjustment – the cam disc moves, changing the stopping position and comprising control of the suspended load.

Available in four gear ratios, the Light Cam Compact has been optimised for standardised cranes and hoists. The simplified design ensures an ideal solution for OEMs mass producing standard models, where economy must be matched with performance. In addition, the Light Cam Compact has been designed specifically for stage hoists in theatre or TV studio applications. A black IP66 PBT synthetic housing means low visibility, while the compact size enables it to meet the reduced packaging requirements of these hoists.

Various cam disc angles are possible depending on the positional information required by the user, with a selection of ready-made discs and custom designs available on request. Two or four switching contacts can also be selected, with switches rated for up to 10 million operations.
