Protecting moving cables and hoses in extreme environments

Moving cables and hoses that operate in tough environments can expect a drastic reduction in service life, so protecting them is vital to improving productivity.

igus’ e-tubes are particularly suited to arduous environments, such as those found in the machine tool, woodworking and textile industries, as well as general mechanical engineering applications. igus e-tubes are fully enclosed energy chains that provide reliable guidance for cables, including sensitive fibre optic cables, and hoses.

For example, the RX e-tube has a contoured design that is injection moulded from exceptionally tough igumid G tribo-plastic material. Protecting moving cables and hoses in extreme environments

All pin and bore connections are covered, which creates a smooth and completely sealed profile to IP40 standard, preventing ingress of chips, dirt, debris or moisture.

For additional support, the RX e-tube is available with customised guide troughs. Interior separators also hold the cables and hoses in place securely to prevent any unwanted movement, wear and damage, further guarding against unscheduled maintenance, cable failure and at worst, costly machine breakdown.

igus has been developing, producing and testing polymer energy chains since 1971. They are tested to endure the harshest environmental conditions, including extreme temperatures, corrosive environments and high humidity. The chains are suitable for various types of motion and travel and proven to deliver lasting operation under high dynamic loads and high speeds.
