Spring-applied brake with reduced overall length and weight to suit disc motor applications

The new COMBISTOP 38S spring-applied brake has an overall length which, depending on the size selected, is reduced by 2mm from 13.5mm to 11.5mm. The weight is also significantly lower compared to the Type 38N/H brake from KEB

KEB Automation has launched a new spring-applied brake with reduced overall length and weight to suit disc motors and other applications where installation space is narrow or restricted.

The new COMBISTOP 38S spring-applied brake has an overall length which, depending on the size selected, is reduced by 2mm from 13.5mm to 11.5mm. The weight is also significantly lower compared to the Type 38N/H brake from KEB.

Hendrik Wieneke, Deputy Sales Manager, Magnet Technology at KEB comments: “The COMBISTOP 38S is ideally suited to disc motor applications. The weight and length reductions are decisive advantages for the customer, particularly when used in weight-sensitive applications.”

All torque-transmitting parts of the COMBISTOP 38S are manufactured in metal.

In the five brake sizes (02 to 06), the brake is designed for rated torques from 5Nm up to 70Nm. Another key feature is a new generation of brake friction linings that are now available.

Due to the flexibility of these friction linings, the brake can be adapted and optimised for specific applications.

The COMBISTOP 38S is interchangeable with the COMBISTOP 38 and is CSA-approved. A hand release option is also available, as well as flange, dust protection ring and a cold climate version (CCV).

The COMBISTOP range of brakes from KEB are electromagnetically actuated dual-surface spring-applied brakes for dry-running applications.

The braking force is applied by the springs and released through the electromagnetic force.

The brakes are tried and tested through millions of cycles and can be used wherever rotating masses need to be stopped or where shafts need to be held securely in a precise position.

High quality materials together with high precision manufacturing, process inspections and functional testing guarantee reliable, safe operation.

On request, KEB can design the COMBISTOP brake to suit customer requirements; for example, the brake can be supplied with pre-mounted armature and increased torque.
