Let there be light: app enhances daylight management

Casambi announces the introduction of a new release of their lighting control app for smartphones, smart watches and tablets.

The software update enables more feature-rich Bluetooth-based management of daylight harvesting, improved functionality to access multiple wireless networks in larger buildings, upgraded implementation of warm dimming, and easier development of smart rotary switches by luminaire manufacturers.

“Casambi’s latest version of its smart lighting control software delivers a complete commissioning and management toolkit for buildings of any size. From large-scale connected lighting in commercial areas to smaller public spaces, our wireless lighting control platform offers fast, convenient and elegant integration with existing or new lighting fixtures and IoT infrastructure. This technology also allows flexibility for our partners to add their own creative customisation,” explains Casambi’s CEO Timo Pakkala.

Available on both Apple and Android platforms, the new release supports daylight management via standalone sensors or sensors integrated into luminaires to allow dimming of artificial lighting when enough daylight is available, to improve light quality and deliver energy savings.

Enabling Bluetooth mesh network-based lighting control without needing a wired gateway or Wi-Fi network connection, the Casambi platform already offers support for presence sensors to automatically control smart luminaires and light bulbs individually or in groups when a space is occupied.

Casambi’s app can also be used seamlessly for larger building complexes. By selecting and enabling ‘Site’, users control lighting across many networks and can adjust scenes, timers, user accounts and user privileges.

For example, the scenes in ‘Site’ can include luminaires from any of the networks that have been added to it.

Casambi also offers the possibility for partners to develop their own rotary switches based on the CBM-001 and CBM-002 Bluetooth modules. Besides the basic functionality of a rotary switch that can be pushed to turn luminaires on, or rotated for dimming and adjusting colour temperature, the switch can also be used to cycle through scenes or modes.

Casambi has also added several fixture modes to enable warm dimming.

Suitable for Casambi’s CBU-ASD, CBU-PWM4, CBM-001 and CBM-002 modules, the ‘WarmCool’ modes implement ‘warm dimming’ with a single dimmer and two outputs (warm/cool) that are mixed according to calibration graphs in order to gradually decrease the colour temperature as the dimming level is reduced.
