Smart pressure sensor designed for vacuum grippers, air filters

ifm has launched the PQ Cube, a new smart pressure sensor designed for vacuum grippers, air filters, and other challenging industrial environments. This new pneumatic pressure sensor is engineered to perform reliably in demanding industrial settings. With its rugged construction, smart installation design, and clear 1-inch TFT display, the PQ Cube sets a new standard for pressure measurement in pneumatic applications.

The PQ Cube was designed for permanent use where conditions are tough. Its IP65 housing, durable brass sockets, and proven precise measuring cell work together to deliver consistent results day after day. That makes it an ideal choice for vacuum grippers and the full range of pneumatic applications, giving engineers the confidence that grip strength and system pressure stay clearly in view at all times.

For applications that call for differential pressure, the PQD version of the Cube measures the pressure difference across components such as air filters. In the version without a mounting adapter, one process connection routes downward and the other to the rear. In the version with a mounting adapter, the rear connection is also redirected downward, simplifying integration in tight spaces.

The PQ Cube’s well-designed mounting concept reduces the need for additional adapters in many cases, cutting installation time and parts stock. The easy-to-read 1-inch TFT display keeps key readings visible at a glance, while a built-in installation wizard streamlines commissioning so teams can get up and running faster.

Every PQ Cube communicates over IO-Link 1.1 (COM 3), making parameter setting and condition monitoring simple across the IO-Link infrastructure. Users can choose from versions with two switching outputs (DC PNP/NPN) or a configuration combining one switching output with one analogue output offering 4-20 mA, 0-10 V, or 1-5 V. Measuring ranges span from -1-0 bar through -1…10 bar, with options in bar and psi to suit applications worldwide.

With a choice of G1/8 and NPT1/8 process connections, M8 and M12 connectors, and switch point accuracy down to less than ± 0.5% on selected versions, the PQ Cube adapts to a wide range of machine designs. It also pairs seamlessly with ifm’s moneo|configure free software and IO-Link masters for straightforward setup and ongoing management.
