Compact SIL 3 safety PLC and modular relay family deliver high-integrity protection

LS ELECTRIC’s Beyond X announces the launch of its XSC Safety PLC and XSR Safety Relay offering as part of the Beyond X Safety Solution for modern industrial machinery.

The compact XSC Safety PLC and modular XSR Safety Relays provide high‑integrity safety with quick configuration and retrofit flexibility, connecting to safety devices to detect hazards and cut power before accidents occur. With high‑density safety I/O, flexible wiring options, and a compact, low‑noise design, the solution delivers advanced protection without adding unnecessary complexity.

The XSC and XSR products are designed to achieve SIL 3 and SIL CL3, PLe/Category 4 safety levels in accordance with IEC 61508 and ISO 13849‑1, helping OEMs and panel builders design safety functions that comply with international standards while applying one safety platform across a wide range of industrial applications.

At the core of the solution is the XSC compact Safety PLC, a stand‑alone controller that combines an optimized footprint with high‑density I/O. It provides 16 safety inputs and 4 OSSD (Output Signal Switching Device) safety outputs in a compact footprint, plus 4 dedicated feedback/restart inputs to simplify the monitoring of external contactors, so users can manage multiple safety devices and zones from a single unit and reduce the need for additional hardware and panel space. This compact hardware design allows for high‑density safety I/O even in restricted control cabinets.

Engineering and commissioning are streamlined through the free XSC Safety Designer software, a user‑friendly tool with a drag‑and‑drop interface, logical function blocks, and a built‑in simulator for pre‑deployment testing. The graphical programming environment eliminates the need for complex coding, allowing engineers to configure safety logic in minutes and reducing the risk of human error during setup.

The XSC Safety PLC is built for demanding environments with compact and silent design and high durability. It features some of the smallest footprints in the industry with low‑noise operation for noise‑sensitive areas, and is engineered to withstand harsh industrial conditions with superior anti‑shock and vibration resistance. Flexible wiring with both screw and push‑in (clamp) type removable terminals supports rapid installation and easy maintenance.

To support maximum uptime and enhanced reliability, the XSC includes on‑board diagnostics and short‑circuit monitoring via four test outputs, ensuring faults are detected before they lead to system failure and helping maintain continuous operation in demanding automotive and manufacturing environments. Cost‑effective scalability is achieved because one XSC controller can replace multiple safety relays, reducing cabinet space and hardware costs while still delivering high‑integrity protection.

The XSR Safety Relay family complements the programmable XSC controller with modular, hardwired safety options. The lineup includes feedback input relays, OSSD output devices, electromechanical switching relays and multi‑functional relays, available with screw or clamp terminals, so users can select exactly the relay functions needed for each machine rather than relying on a single, one‑size‑fits‑all device. Each module operates from a 24VDC PELV supply and is designed for SIL 3, PLe/Category 4 performance, with multiple safety contacts rated for typical industrial control loads.

Together, the XSC Safety PLC and XSR Safety Relays form a scalable Beyond X Safety Solution for both new installations and retrofits.
