Ex d enclosures for motor starter, terminal box or local control station applications

R. STAHL, the manufacturer of electrical and electronic equipment for hazardous areas, has introduced a direct entry Ex d series of enclosures that are suitable for universal use as a terminal box, local control station, motor starter or control panel.

The 8250 series of direct entry Ex d enclosures are cost effective, versatile and offer exceptional safety in numerous power and control applications by confining any possible explosion within the enclosure itself, thereby protecting workers, assets and the environment from damage.

Potential markets include onshore and offshore oil and gas, chemicals, petrochemicals, marine, pharmaceuticals and machine building, as well as any industrial environment where potentially hazardous gas or dusts are present.

Alan Mellows, Managing Director at R. Stahl Limited comments: “Today, the global market for low cost, direct entry Ex d enclosures is extremely competitive but fraught with low cost and associated poor quality products. With the new 8250 series of direct entry Ex d enclosures, our customers will benefit from a competitively priced enclosure that is still manufactured to our own very high quality standards and with enhanced ATEX and IECEx certification. In the UK, we also have the advantage of being able to customise and assemble enclosures locally in our UK workshops in volumes to suit all customer requirements.”

The 8250 series of direct entry Ex d enclosures are suitable for use in both gas and dust environments in Zone 1, 2, 21 or 22 hazardous areas. For offshore oil and gas installations, the enclosures provide enhanced protection and are certified to ATEX/IECEx IIB+H2 T6.T4 Gb.

Light and compact, the enclosures are made from a seawater-resistant aluminium alloy (AlSi7Mg0.3). Customisable hinges can be added later.

The lid, which can be fitted with a range of control devices, can also be locked securely with an ‘impossible to lose’ A80 Allen key.

A large aperture angle ensures easy access to the enclosure and fast operation.

The surfaces are protected by a powder-coated finish (RAL7035) with other paint options available on request. The boxes also provide a very wide operating temperature range, from -60°C to +70°C, as well as being protected to IP66.

Alan Mellows continues: “To minimise stock and storage costs for customers, we have five standard sizes of empty enclosures to choose from, which cover the most common applications. However, we can also supply bespoke boxes to suit most requirements on short lead times and we won’t be beaten on price either.”

Available in various sizes and with many different equipment options – including pushbuttons, rotary actuators, adapters, cable glands, indicating lamps, stop plugs, locking devices and sign holders – the 8250 series of direct entry Ex d enclosures is ideal for any hazardous gas or dust application.
