Hillhead Expo 2018: Can you handle the pressure?

At this year’s Hillhead Expo, which runs from 26th – 28th June at the Hillhead Quarry in Buxton, UK, igus will demonstrate products that are made to perform under harsh conditions, such as those found in the construction, quarrying, and recycling industries.

During the show, igus will be exhibiting the heavy-duty material iglidur TX1, which has been tried and tested for even tougher applications.

igus will demonstrate, in particularly the instances where regular lubrication is required, the benefits of replacing metallic bearings with iglidur parts to avoid undue costs for maintenance and repair.

These include applications within the construction and agricultural sectors, where very high forces – such as bearing loads up to 200MPa – act on bearing points.

High compressive strength

TX1 is characterised by an extremely high compressive strength and long service life, and also features a high temperature resistance of up to 170°C for short periods.

“With a static compressive strength of up to 200 MPa and a dynamic strength of 140MPa, we can implement many applications in the heaviest weight class,” says Robert Dumayne, director at igus, who will be on hand during the show.

iglidur TX1 – like all iglidur plain bearings – is self-lubricating and dry running but can also be used with lubrication in individual cases, for example, in typical applications in the agricultural and construction machinery sector, when lubricating grease is used as a corrosion protection for the shaft.

Optimum use of installation space

Optimum use of installation space, light weight and high stability – these are also some of the benefits of the E4.1L lean energy chain from igus another product on display at Hillhead.

Compared with the E4.1, it is about 30% lighter; this brings an additional advantage – a considerable amount of drive power can be saved, making the application more energy efficient.

In addition, the E4.1L can accommodate more hoses and cables in a given space envelope than its predecessor.

It is available from stock in numerous interior heights and widths. As for the open energy chain, igus also offers an ESD version suitable for use in ATEX environments.

All igus products go through a rigorous system for testing – the front loader test rig, which moves 24/7, is located outdoors and therefore exposed to all the elements.

This enables igus to compare different bearing combinations in order to find the best products for the respective heavy-duty application. Watch the test rig webcam HERE.
