SEGGER supports Microchip SAML11 with embOS RTOS and advanced development tools

SEGGER announces full support for Microchip’s new SAML11 devices within its complete line-up of embedded development solutions.

Start developing with SAML11 out of the gate with SEGGER’s IDE Embedded Studio, RTOS embOS, J-Link debug probes, and SystemView runtime visual analysis tool, which are all utilised in the ready-to-go evaluation package, which is free for educational and non-commercial use without limitation.

The SAML10/L11 MCU family runs at 32 MHz with memory configuration of up to 64 KB Flash and 16 KB SRAM.

They come in two variant options: SAML10 and SAML11 and boast ultra-low power consumption, enhanced Peripheral Touch Controller and advanced analog features.

The SAML11 variant adds integrated hardware security. They come in 24 & 32 pin package options and target IoT & security, low power, capacitive touch and general purpose embedded control applications.
Included within the available embOS RTOS port for SAML11, is enablement for SystemView, a visual analysis tool.

SystemView can record data from the embedded target system while it is running.

The recorded data is analysed and the system behaviour is visualised in different views. It can ensure a system performs as designed, track down inefficiencies, and show unintended interactions and resource conflicts, with a focus on details with granularity down to every system tick.

The security features of the SAML11 are complimented by the availability of emCrypt, a complete security suite including all cryptographic algorithms required for device security, whether it is authentication, communication or any other aspect of security.

“Application development on the SAML11 is made easy and full featured when using SEGGER’s J-Link debug probes and complete embedded development tool chain.  embOS is an ideal RTOS making use of the least amount of memory and optimizing performance on the SAML11.  SEGGER is excited to continue contributing as a top performer within Microchip’s ecosystem.” says James Murphy, Vice President of Sales, US at SEGGER.

SEGGER expands Embedded Studio PRO by adding IoT and Security Components

SEGGER expands the scope of the Embedded Studio PRO software package by adding IoT (Internet of Things), security and connectivity related software modules to the package.

The newly added modules are SEGGER’s IoT Toolkit, the security libraries emSSL, emSSH, emSecure and emCrypt as well as the communication stack emModbus and the compression algorithms emCompress.

Adding these new components grants developers direct access to SEGGER’s most popular software components in one package.

Accompanied by board support packages for popular development boards, Embedded Studio PRO provides an easy-to-use solution to create and develop new products.

Ready-to-run projects that build the foundation of your new application can be created with just a few clicks.

The expanded Embedded Studio PRO Library Package now includes the RTOS embOS, the GUI emWin, the file system emFile, the communication stacks embOS/IP, emUSB-Device, emUSB-Host and emModbus, the compression algorithms emCompress and SEGGER’s IoT Toolkit and security libraries serving all standard software needs of modern embedded and IoT devices.

As a commercial one-stop solution Embedded Studio PRO does not only consist of the software libraries and the Embedded Studio IDE, but also includes SEGGER’s market-leading debug probe, J-Link, an emPower evaluation board, and professional developer support by SEGGER’s Embedded Experts.

“The new Embedded Studio PRO Library Package completes SEGGER’s offering for software developers by vastly reducing the complexity of creating full-featured projects,” says Dirk Akemann, Marketing Manager at SEGGER. “It enhances the out-of-the-box experience with an easy-to-use setup. The Embedded Studio IDE is now the developer’s go-to solution for everyday work. It manages their whole workflow of project development; their tools, their libraries, and their sources.”

SEGGER connects Embedded Systems to LAN or Cloud through USB host interface

SEGGER introduces emUSB-Host LAN that connects any embedded system to a LAN or Internet using nothing more than a spare USB host socket.

Using readily available USB to Ethernet adapters, in-field devices without network hardware can be enhanced with network connectivity using SEGGER software.

emUSB-Host LAN supports USB-to-LAN adapters using software plug-ins. SEGGER offers immediate availability of plug-ins for adapters that use ASIX AX88772/A/B chipsets and for any adapter that conforms to the standard CDC-ECM class or Microsoft’s RNDIS specification.

Smartphone tethering interfaces usually conform to the RNDIS class. With USB tethering, the embedded system can connect to the Internet, for instance through a service technician’s mobile phone, wherever a cellular connection exists.

Due to the very low memory usage emUSB-Host LAN will run on many microcontrollers without requiring additional external memory.

“With the continuous addition of new classes, our emUSB-Host enables PC-like USB support for embedded systems, while retaining the low memory footprint imposed by typical microcontrollers. Adding support for LAN adapters to our USB host stack enables numerous use cases: whether it is a service technician who can configure and manage an embedded system with just his smartphone and a web browser or an embedded system that can be remotely managed by simply asking the customer to connect it to the Internet,” says Dirk Akemann, Marketing Manager at SEGGER.
