Chill out: Variable speed chiller saves fuel, money and the environment

Aggreko has launched a new variable speed chiller that can operate from 100% to just 10% capacity and gives customers a flexibility that saves fuel, operating costs and helps protect the environment.

The new 700kW air-cooled screw chiller delivers best-in-class energy efficiency and also has a smaller footprint, which takes up less space onsite. Its cooling capacity ranges from -15°C to +21°C.

“Variable speeds offer flexibility in so many ways, which gives our customers greater control,” said Bill Carrick, Aggreko’s Director of Temperature Control.

“It can be turned down to as low as 10% capacity, which means significant savings in energy consumption. And we know everyone is concerned about the environment, so we also took that into consideration.

“The unit also has low start up fuel use and remote start/stop, and is programmable so we can turn it up during busy production times and turn it down during off hours. And we monitor it round the clock, so we always know how it’s performing.”

The new chiller is fitted with Aggreko’s proprietary ARM technology (Aggreko Remote Monitoring) which relays data in real-time, 24/7, to technical experts at the Remote Operating Centre (ROC), who can diagnose problems, remotely fix issues, proactively prevent failures and maintain energy consumption and operating efficiency.

“The new line perfectly complements our existing air-cooled chiller fleet, and allows us to provide another scalable, cost-effective package to meet our customers’ demands,” said Carrick.

It was designed by Aggreko in partnership with Johnson Controls, to support applications across a range of industries, including comfort cooling, and commercial and process applications, such as data centre temperature control and food and beverage production and storage.

Aggreko operates across all sectors, including oil and gas, petrochemical and refining, utilities, manufacturing, construction, mining
