Sustainable steering systems

Steering system specialist, Pailton Engineering, has made the transition to new environmental standard ISO14001:2015 after a six month review and upgrade of operating processes across the company.

An assessment team visited Pailton to carry out an external audit, verify compliance and confirm that internal processes were fully integrated with the new guidelines.

Pailton has completed this transition well in advance of the mandatory change over date of September 2018, set by ISO.

In the new ISO 14001:2015, there is much greater emphasis on ensuring procedures and documentation span a product’s entire lifecycle. This transition has therefore brought about significant changes to the procedures at Pailton.

“We have maintained the outgoing ISO14001 standard since 2004, so protecting the environment has been at the forefront of what we do for a long time,” said Andy Lancashire, HR manager at Pailton Engineering. “As part of this transition to the new standard, we are now responsible for ensuring the traceability of a product from the moment it is sourced, until its disposal. We’ve therefore assessed our suppliers and introduced environmental improvements, including waste reduction and waste segregation.

“The new capital equipment on our factory floor has certainly helped us integrate our internal processes with these new guidelines. With increased speed, efficiency and accuracy of newer equipment, our products are made in less time, with less energy and with less waste. With more changes to our factory floor on the way, this is just the beginning.”

Pailton’s steering systems are custom made and rigorously tested by a team of experts. They can be specifically designed, manufactured and tested for extreme applications, with minimal environment impact, as demonstrated by this new certification.
